One of the social events of the season was the marriage on Thursday evening of Miss Mary Gertrude Wilkey daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Wilkey of Liberty township, Parke county, to Gilbert W. Spencer, of Kingman, at the home of the bride’s parents. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Wood, of the M. E. church, at eight o’clock in the presence of fifty invited guests. The Wilkey home was elegantly decorated with cypress and white flowers. The parlor where the ceremony was performed was nicely decorated an arch being formed with the cypress and flowers under which the bride and groom were seated. The ring ceremony was used, Master Parke Pearson, nephew of the bride was ring bearer and little Fauniel Hall, a niece, was flower girl it was truly a pleasing sight as the little ones preceeded the bride and groom as they entered the room. The bride was elegantly dressed in a robe of organdie over white silk. The bridal flowers were white carnations. The bridal procession entered the room to the strains of the wedding march played by Miss Jessie Wells, after the ceremony refreshments were served, after which the bride and groom received the congratulation of their friends. Many elegant presents were received. Gertrude was one of the lights in her circle of girl friends and her pleasant ways and cheery manner will be greatly missed. Gilbert is a young man of sterling worth, a very popular gentleman and is worthy of the affection he has won. Among the guests from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Hall, Misses Jessie Wells and Myrtle Lindley, of Covington, J. C. Barker and mother, of Marshall, Mrs. Heath and Hendrick, of Tangier, and Mrs. Henderson, of Ridgefarm, Ill. . Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Spencer gave a reception at their home Friday in honor of of their sons and the wives. Guests were limited to members of the immediate families. – jlr
