James Richard RICE marries Lewanda Tanner

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tanner, of Veedersburg, have announced the marriage of their younger daughter, Lewanda J. to James Richard Rice, CM 2-c eldest son of Mrs. Ruth Rice of Mellott. The single ring ceremony was read at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday April 18 in the study of the First Baptist Church in Vallejo, California by the Rev. Jesse H. Parker. The bride wore a street length dress of purple and fuchsia with a hat of natural straw, with remaining accessories of black with a corsage of violet sweet peas. Her attended, Mrs. Drue Nicholson of Dallas, Texas wore chartreuse with black accessories and a corsage of pink sweet peas. The bridegroom's attendant was Drue Nicholson S.K. 1st class shipmate of Mr. Rice. The bride graduated from Mellott HS with the class of 1939 and Central Beauty College. She is employed as operator at the Antoine Beauty Salon, HP Wasson & Co, Indianapolis.?? The groom graduated from Mellott HS in 1940 and was employed by Harrison Steel Casting, Attica, before enlisting in US Navy in August 1942.?? For the past 21 months CM 2-c Rice has been serving in the Pacific Theatre of war aboard the USS Cabana. Mr. and Mrs. Rice arrived in Mellott April 30 to enjoy a leave with relatives and friends.?? Mr. Rice will report back to his ship on the west coast.
