McBROOM, Edward and Eleanor Bowman

A wedding of interest to relatives and friends in Hillsboro was that of Miss Eleanor Bowman, daughter of Mr., and Mrs. Nicholas Bowman and Edward McBroom son of Senator and Mrs. Victor McBroom in Kankakee, Illinois on Sunday afternoon Sept 19 at the First Methodist Church. The marriage ceremony was read by Dr. Morgan Williams, pastor of the church, before an altar bedecked with white gladioli, palms and white lighted tapers. Bridal music was played by Mrs. EL Lonhengrin who also played the “Bridal Chorus” from Lohengrin as the party entered the church. Miss Iris Wood of Washington DC, a sorority sister of the bride, was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Lois Ann Strain, Kankakee, Mrs. Victor Sampson, Cincinnati, O; Mrs. James Thomas, Big Rapids, Mich; and Miss Betty Searls, Kankakee. Beverly Bowman, a sister of the bride was junior bridesmaid and Wendall Frerichs, a brother-in-law of the groom was best man. The bride wore oyster white satin styled with an illusion neckline and fitted bodice edged with seeded pearls. Her skirt terminated into a full length train. Her fingertip veil was held in place by a braided coronet of matching satin and she carried a bouquet of calla lilies. Her only jewelry was a pearl lavalier centered with a diamond which was a gift from Senator McBroom to his wife on their wedding day. A reception was held in the Gold Room of the Kankakee Hotel following the ceremony and later, Mr. and Mrs. McBroom left for a wedding trip to Colorado Springs, Colo. The bride is a graduate of the University of Illinois and a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Mr. McBroom after serving in the Navy for three years during World War II was graduated from the University of Illinois and is associated with the firm of Jeffers and McBroom. He is a member of the Alph Delta Phi fraternity. EM Laird of Crawfordsville, great uncle of the groom and Kathryn Niehouse, state senator from California were among the 600 wedding guests. ---transcribed by kbz
