CHIZUM - TODD MARRIAGE ********************************************** Source: Logansport Daily Reporter, Thursday 16 July 1896 Blessings never come singly, The Lafayette Courier on Tuesday published the account of the secret marriage of George C. Bryant and Miss Alta Richardson. At that time it was not known that there had been a double wedding, but it now transpires that such was the case. The other happy couple was Fred L. Todd, of the Call, and Miss Anna E. Chizum, of Veedersburg, the later a cousin of Bryant's bride. The two couples left Lafayette on the morning of the 5th, went to Logansport and drove to Carroll, Carroll county, where Mr. Todd's cousin, Rev. Harvey Todd, married them in one service. Mrs. Todd went to her home in Veedersburg and the others returned to Lafayette. Mr. Todd formerly lived in Logansport and has visited here frequently the past few months. ************************************************** Source: Tippecanoe County Book: S-19 p 75 5 July 1896 Anna E. Three weeks later the Lafayette papers announced that the young people had been married while here. Fred was in the city Sunday and says it is all a cruel joke. He is not married, but the Logansport girls don't know it, and look askance at Todd's handsome face when he visits here." The above item which appeared in a recent issue of the Reporter, was reproduced in the Lafayette Courier with the result that the Reporter has a letter from a Lafayette gentleman who has something to say regarding the affair. he states that he is in a position to know that Mr. Todd and Miss Anna Chizum, of Veedersburg, were married July 15th by Rev. Harvey Todd at his residence, fifteen miles south of Logansport. Whether Mr. Todd is or is not married, is a matter of little moment to the Reporter, but if the ceremony occurred, there should be no reason for denial.
