It's a good possibility they ARE connected, but I have no idea how! Thanks for your efforts in trying to help ;) Judy Palmaffy ancestors@cbd.net At 08:39 AM 11/16/98 -0500, you wrote: > >Mary ROHRER was my gggrandmother. They had several children including Wilmina, Mary Ann (my g-g-grandmother), Benjamin, James G., John, and Romaine. (It is also believed John may have had a daughter Ruth from a prior marriage.) Mary Ann married John Zimmerman from Cass Co Michigan, and they along with James G. and his family went to Kansas in 1873. In the "local briefs" of the Windom, KS newspaper of September 16, 1886, there is the following paragraph: "Miss Hattie Rhorer, of Elkhart county, Ind, who has been visiting her cousin, Mrs. John Zimmerman, left here Wednesday for McPherson, where she visits Mrs. Hall, after which she returns home." Am wondering if the Hattie Rhorer referred to could be connected in some way to your Rohrer family? Thanks. You can inform me about procedure. I am looking for the name JOHN HENRY WYNN, b. Butler Cty.,OH in 1824. I know that he married Catharine Ellis in Warren Cty., IN in 1847, and later married Christiana High (Higle?) in IN. All of his children were born in IN according to census records. Family lore says that this family moved (without a mother-no Christiana) to Minnesota from Elkhart, Indiana. I do not know how to find info regarding this family. I know that they were in MN in 1880--according to census records. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Specifiaclly the descendants of Peter Rush b.1824 and his children William b1873, Oliver b1874, Nettie b1876, and Peter b1878. I'm told some of them still in the Elkhart area. Any information would be useful. I'm a direct descendant through William Rush and have much information from that point down. I just happened to catch this on the South Bend Tribune web site at http://www.sbtinfo.com/111898/obituary/129104.htm: Death Notice, South Bend Tribune 11/18/98 Elaine S. Smith July 28, 1932 - Nov. 16, 1998 ELKHART - Elaine Spires Smith, 66, of 59201 Merrimac Lane, died Monday in Elkhart General Hospital of natural causes. Survivors include her husband, D. Neal; a daughter, Mindy Winkel of Mundelein, Ill.; and two sons, Jim of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Brian of Chicago. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Elaine was a dear friend to the Indiana genealogical community. Her accomplishments were many. For years she held office with the Elkhart County Genealogical Society, and was the editor of the Indiana Genealogical Society Newsletter. Elaine was the author of "Elkhart County, Indiana Area Resource Centers For Help In Researching Your Ancestors" at http://www.rootsweb.com/~inelkhar/elksourc.htm. This represents only a very small portion of her countless contributions to us. It was commonplace for her to personally help individuals she did not know with genealogical reseach, asking nothing in return. Many times people would e-mail me with questions I could not answer. I would forward them to Elaine and she would take time to answer them. She also gave me valuable input on the Elkhart County Genealogical Society pages, the INELKHAR mailing list and the Elkhart County, IN USGenWeb pages. She will be missed greatly.
