Carol and I spent the entire day rounding up information on this family..it is more like a week full time project due to so many of the family who resided and still resides in this county. ( I do have to say we just had "too much fun") i will sketch information here so it will be in the archives for those who are searching for help at a latter date. gravestone, pictures available for those who need them from the following listings. clinton union cemetery, elkhart county clinton twp. 4 1/2 miles east of goshen north sid of c.r. 36 John bowman sr. john j. bowman ( jr) and wife susannah from family history written by barbara jewett: personal interview with Oma Rohn ( grandaughter of Michael.) Michaels children martha jane and charlie are/were buried here. Michael went to dig up the graves of his children to place by his deceased wife, sarah at rock run. all he found was buttons from the little girls dress. so it probably would be considered that they are still at clinton union even though their stones are at rock run. there are still 2 small markers second and third from michael father. one is marked j j b the other j b. would it be possible that john had these plots and this is where the children of micael are buried? speculation of mine . there are phelps here but with current information do not know if it is the phelps who married into the bowman family. probably buried beside john sr and initials make it very possible . probably children of william h. phelps and magdalene bowman. rock run cemetery, elkhart county, clinton twp. 5 miles east of goshen at the corner of cr 33 and 38. next to the rock run church of the brethren. many of the family are buried very close together here michael bowman wife sarah, child charles and child martha jane george w. bates and wife sadie ( sally, sarah ann ) michaels daughter george bowman and wife george swartzlander and wife cora ellen michaels daughter arch carpenter and hesta michaels daughter mathias bowman probably son of john j bowman jr. j. edward and alcie f. bowman undetermined relationship but beside mathias elmer h. and viola m. bowman undetermined relationship but beside matias the remaining known children of michael we were unable to currently find. mary madalene and william adrian carpenter and wife lizzie, son of hesta and arch ralph bates and beulah son of sadie and george noble bowman , son of george there are more in this cemetery of this family but we did not take pictures today. will later. there is another generation yet on the carpenter line and the bates line buried here. at the goshen public library. the arch and hesta carpenter family compiled by barbara jewett. this work has a photcopy of their marriage lisc., photos of family, farm and school, their church the goshen times, thursday dec. 4, 1862 article page 2 john bowman daughters marriage. there are birth, marrieage, will, death, cemeteries indexes as well as a few index on census more of this to follow at a latter date yvonne ______________________________ X-Message: #3 Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 19:28:31 -0400 From: "Tim Rush" To: INELKHAR-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <01bd9a47$a38b1ac0$32a48ecf@timrush> Subject: [INELKHAR-L] Surname RUSH Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I'm researching the surname RUSH and especially those from the Elkhart area during early 1800's and later.
