Hi Sandy,
Many thanks for volunteering to call Grace Lawn!! You're terrific! I'm
posting this to the List in hopes the few other facts we have about Wm.
R. Wilson might somehow be helpful to others?
William R. WILSON and LAVONIA were part of a wagon train that departed
from Elkhart, IN in March 1859 and arrived Susanville, CA in Sept, 1859.
(Dates on this are confirmed, as he left a journal of the trip) The two
of them appear in Seneca, Quincy Post Office, Plumas Co, CA in 1860
Census. WRW's parents were Solomon and Mary WILSON, and Solomon may also
have been part of the wagon train.
William R. WILSON was born about 1832 in New York. LAVONIA WILSON
(presumably wife #1, but then again, might possibly be his sister?) was
born about 1834 in New York. (from 1860 Census).
William R. WILSON was a school teacher. And after the 1860 Census,
LAVONIA disappears entirely. The next we know (other than the Grace
Lawn purchase) he marries Abby Bird CAPEN in about 1867. She dies and
he marries wife #3 Mary E.P.CAPEN in 1879. From then on, we have him
teaching school and living in Soquel, Santa Cruz Co, CA until his death
in 1910.
Maybe the wagon train info will be helpful to someone? Or maybe there
are other WILSON connections in Elkhart? In any event, thank you again
for your help and I'll look forward to hearing from you.
Regards, Carolyn

Would like to contact descendants of Joseph and Lydia Lehman Weaver. Joseph
born 28 Aug 1857, Indiana and died 23 Jan 1920, Sturgis, St, Joseph, Michigan.
Lydia born 6 Apr 1858, Miami County, In. and died 1 Jan 1917, Constantine, St.
Joseph, Michigan. Their children:
Jame Martin Weaver (my grandfather) born 17 Feb 1884, Nappanee, Elkhart, In.
He died 13 Apr 1930, when he committed suicide by jumping in the river in
Elkhart, In. He and his mother, Lydia, are buried in Constantine cemetery in
St. Joseph County, Mi. He had siblings Bessie, Mabel, Jennie and Pearl. I have
very little information on his siblings. James married Agnes Mae Scudder in
Davidson County, Tn. in 1910 and they were divorced in 1914. He retuned to
Indiana and married Anna Mae Blood. Any information on this family will be
greatly appreciated.
