Peter Diddy, born 1792 in Dauphin Co., Penn., and his wife Isabel Dougherty (Jackson?) Diddy moved to Elkhart about 1828. Peter was an early county judge. Their son Levi Diddy, born 1818 in Dauphin Co., Penn., was a carpenter and joiner who helped build the first house and first mill in Elkhart and the first bridge across the St. Joseph River. He married Sarah Ann Burns in Elkhart in 1838. Is there a published history of Elkhart Co. that might mention this family? Any advice appreciated. Thanks. I also found a WONDERFUL book in the library called "A Bibliography of American County Histories". It is one researchers list of multiple books which relate to a single county's history, and is listed by State, then County in alpha order. I did not write down the author's name, but in my library the Dewey Decimal Number is 917.3.
