AITKEN

Posted by Peter L. Aitken <AitkenPL@aol.com> on Tue, 18 Aug 1998

I am looking for information related to Andrew Aitken who was the son of John Aitken of New York City and the grandson of Andrew Aitken who emigrated to America from Ayrshire,Scotland in 1775.
According to a genealogy compiled by his nephew ("Distinguished American Families in America Descended from Wilhelmus Beekman & Jan Thomasse Van Dyke" by William B. Aitken, The Knickerbocker Press, 1912), Andrew (the grandson) "went West as a young man", which I guess would be around 1820-1860. At the time of his father's death in 1869, Andrew returned to New York and indicated in some legal documents that he resided in "...Bristol Elkhardt County in the State of Indiana". (The spelling of Elkhart county is his.)
I would appreciate learning any details about or references to Andrew Aitken, and send my thanks in advance.

SELMIER

Posted by W. Travis Selmier <travissr@worldnet.att.net> on Thu, 20 Aug 1998, posted by Rebecca Shulmire on Thu, 07 May 1998

Read your message in Elkhart County Query Forum re William Schulmire. In doing research on my family official records have numerous spellings of Selmier, so there might be a connection. To begin, two cousins [purportedly] born in Germany [Bremen or Hanover] around 1815 had sons who migrated separately [1850's] and Henry and Herman Henry both married and widowed the same woman Wilmina Cristina Copeman, also an immigrant from Germany. Henry was my great grand-father. There are lots of details, some sketchy, particularly about the Herman Henry/Wilmina branch, which was started after Henry/Wilmina branch.

Do you have any other details concerning William Schulmire?

Regards, Travis

Willing to share what I already know. Interested in expanding current lines and adding to the tree. Thanks!

Would like to correspond with descendants of the Revolutionary War soldier John Proctor, born Virginia 1752, died in Elkhart County 1854 (date not an error!) In the early 1820s/30s, John's son, John Proctor, Jr. moved to Indiana. Also his daughter Fanny and her husband, Joseph Hughes, and possibly a (grand?)son Ramoth Proctor in Miami County.
