MRS. ELIZABETH TROUP

(1933) Mrs. Elizabeth Troup, 90, widow of Peter Troup, died at 7:00 Saturday evening at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Samuel Hisey, of northwest of Bristol. Death was due to complications. Mrs. Troup was the eldest child of John and Johanna Weybright. She was born Nov. 1, 1843 near New Paris. She was married to Peter Troup Aug. 24, 1862. Her husband died 43 years ago. To this union was born 3 daughters and 4 sons.

Surviving are 1 son, Milo of New Paris, and daughters, Mrs. Hisey and Mrs. Alpheus Neff, of New Paris, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and 2 brothers William Weybright of Syracuse, and D.W. Weybright of New Paris. She had been a member of the Church of the Brethren for 70 years. Burial in Baintertown cemetery.

Elkhart---Irene Truman, 85, of 28141 Fieldhouse Ave., died at 6:03 p.m. Friday (April 14, 1995) at Elkhart General Hospital where she was taken from her home after becoming ill. She was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Lakeville. She married Arthur Dewitt, on Dec. 5, 1930. He died on Feb. 16, 1952. She married Edward Truman on Nov. 20, 1962, in Elkhart. He died April 3, 1975. Surviving are two sons, Richard Miller and Arthur Dewitt, both of Elkhart; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Howard (Ina) Kyle of Elkhart; Mrs. Fred (Mable) Lehman of South Bend; and Lydia Belcher, Lillian McDaniels and Florence Jones. Five brothers and four sisters are deceased. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, where a service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery. Memorials may be made to any charity. Mrs. Truman was a homemaker.

WILLIAM TWOMEY

Shoe merchant, William Twomey Friday Evening - Succumbed to Less than week's illness of Pneumonia - was in 87th year - in Goshen 52 years

William Twomey, the veteran shoe merchant of this city and for over a half century a highly esteemed citizen of Goshen, died at his home, corner of 7th and Jefferson sts. At 8:30 Thursday evening, after a brief illness of pneumonia. He was in his 87th year. He was taken sick last Friday, but Saturday morning was down town for a brief time to get shaved and after his return home has since been confined to his bed. He had been critically ill for the past few days.
In his death the community loses a citizen whose integrity, high ideals and genial manners won for him friends innumerable. He was a type that represented the best element of naturalized good citizenship and contributed to the real bone and sinew of a community. He was the oldest active merchant in Goshen.

William Twomey was born in Ireland Aug. 15, 1820. He came to America in 1848 and the old sailing vessel in which he made the journey, the Franklin was shipwrecked off Cape Cod and he was one of the two who were saved. He lost a brother in the disaster. For 24 hours he was adrift on a rough sea in sight of land before being rescued.

In 1850 he was married at Hartford, Conn. To Miss Mary Kehoe who survives him. 2 children were born to them at Hartford, one of whom died at 2 years of age, and the other Mary died in Goshen Apr. 2, 1877. Four children, with the mother, survive him. William F., associated with his father in the shoe business, Mrs. MB (Rose) Jordan of Elkhart, Mrs. M (Agatha) Clifford of Delphi, Ind. And Richard at home, also six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves two brothers, Richard, aged 90 years, at Doylestown, Wis, and Patrick , nearly 80 years old, of Boston.

Mr. Twomey and family came to Goshen in 1855 and had lived practically all that time in the home where he died. He had been in the shoe business all his lifetime. For many years he conducted a store on the site of Dr. JA Snapp's present office building. Since 1888 his store has been in the Kindig block, corner of Main and Lincoln. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery.
