Nelson Harris entered this property in Bainbridge Township in 1816 after returning from the War Of 1812, and set aside 1/2 acre for this graveyard. In the 1980's the cemetery was unfenced. Livestock roamed among the graves at will. The only marker left standing was Nelson Harris' government stone, placed by local historian Forrest Anderson and county historian George R. Wilson.
In 1987 the cemetery was cleaned up and a chain link fence put in place. Most of the stones had been destroyed over the years. Del Himsel, John Fierst and Lillian Doane identified all known burials and a memorial stone with all known names was put in place by the Shiloh Cemetery Association. One person buried here is Thomas Woolridge, who was shot and killed by Zachariah Dillin after serving only six weeks as Dubois County Sheriff.
Nelson Harris today is well kept and surrounded by pine trees planted and cared for by the adjoining land owner......above information courtesy of Del Himsel.
