Stephenson Cemetery Abstract from Historical Notes on Dubois County, Indiana by George R. Wilson Volume 22 pages 267 and 268 “Dr.
Edward Stephenson’s graveyard site was on the north side of West Sixth
Street, almost on the quarter section line of Section 35, T 1 S R 5 W,
about 700 yards west of the courthouse, at Jasper. The recorded deed
gives the exact location. The site was abandoned and all the remains
were moved to a
lot in Fairview cemetery when Dr. Stephenson died. He was never buried in the graveyard that bore his name. The site of this graveyard is now (1940) covered by a very modern brick residence. The graveyard was simply in the way of advancing improvements at Jasper. Mrs. Stephenson, several of her children, and one stranger (a child) were, at one time, buried in Stephenson’s graveyard, a very pretty place, well cared for and landscaped.” These remains and tombstones are located in Fairview Cemetery and listed on pages 242 and 245 of Volume 4 Cemeteries & Inscriptions. |
