Jasper Courier
Friday January 14, 1881

FIRE: The farm residence and barn of Phillip Wininger about a mile north of Ireland in Madison Township, burned last Friday. The family were all away at a neighbors when the house caught it is supposed, from fire left in a stove. Most of the furniture was got out and the year's supply of meat, from a smoke house nearby, and conveyed to the barn across the road some distance. This was in the morning, and that night the barn also burned, destroying all that had been saved before. It is not known how the barn caught fire. This is a severe blow loss to Mr. W. and his neighbors all sympathize with him.
