LOVED NOT WISELY, BUT TOO WELL: Over
a year ago, one Isiah Cassiday began waiting on Miss Wininger, a
daughter of Mr. P. K. Wininger, a worthy farmer of the Ireland
Community, but his attentions were opposed by her parents. He still
continued to meet her, however, and a few weeks since she gave birth to
a child as a result of their meeting in opposition to her parents
advice. Isiah left for the wilds of Crawford County. A prosecution was instituted, and Contable Myers went to the wilds and brought him back. A marriage license was obtained and he professed to be anxious to marry her, but the father would not let them marry in his house, and so a delay was had, and Constable Miller, in whose charge he was left, was thrown off his guard and Isiah skipped again last Saturday, much to the disgust of the officers who don't know where their fees are to come from. (File Note: Sarah F. Wininger and Isiah Cassidy were later married March 13, 1881 in Orange County) |
