Entered service on 4 October 1861. Served with the 38th Indiana Infantry Company I at Camp Nevin on the Barren River and Camp Wood on the Green River near Munfordville, Kentucky until spring of 1862 moved with General Buell's Army against Bowling Green, Kentucky and Nashville, Tennessee.March 1862 moved to Franklin, Tennessee on to Columbia and Shelbyville against Forrest's Cavalry and skirmish near Rogersville, Tennessee moved Chattanooga, Shelbyville and Stevenson, Tennessee on to Decherd, Tennessee. 17 August 1862 fell back to Nashville. Marched with Buell's Army to Louisville, Kentucky. Engaged General Bragg's Army in the Kentucky Campaign at Perryville, Kentucky. Killed in action at Perryville on 8 October 1862.
