Garard Cemetery was also known as Stafford or Shanlee Cemetery. It is located in Hamilton Township east of Wheeling Pike and north of Indiana State Road 28, about a 1/4 of a mile off the road in a patch of woods.
There is NO public road to this cemetery. If you plan on visiting this cemetery you will need to hike back through a field and into the woods.
Travel Wheeling Pike to Highway 28 turn right travel east a 1/4 mile. Follow the path that was an old Railroad track north between the two fields back to the woods . Garard cemetery is located at the back of the woods on high ground. According to local residents, at one time the cemetery could be accessed from Wheeling Pike but the Railroad bridge is no longer standing and the creek or ditch is too deep to cross.
The cemetery is overgrown and the tombstones are broken and lying on the ground. If this cemetery is not cared for soon, all traces of it will be gone forever.
