WIDNEY, the eldest son and second child of seven children of Samuel and Johannah (Brearley) Widney, was born in Franklin County, Pa, Dec. 18, 1825, and was ten years of age when his parents moved to DeKalb County. His youth was spent in assisting his father to clear and improve a frontier farm. He remained with his parents till manhood, and then bought 100 acres of unimproved land on section 10, Concord Township, where he lived till 1880, when he retired from the active labors of farm life and moved to the village of St. Joe. He has been successful in his pursuits, and now has a competency for his declining years. Mr. Widney was married October 5, 1854, to Nancy Cole, a native of Jefferson County, Ohio, daughter of John Cole. To them were born three children but one of whom is living--Mary J., wife of Jacob Sechler. Mrs. Widney died Sept. 30, 1872, and Nov. 10, 1874, Mr. Widney married Mary Sechler, daughter of Levi Sechler. Mr. and Mrs. Widney are members of the Lutheran church.
