WAR VETERAN DIES SATURDAY.
SAMUEL A. TAYLOR ANSWERS FINAL CALL AT AGE
        OF 88 YEARS.

        FUNERAL MONDAY.

Samuel A. TAYLOR, Civil War veteran, and
widely known throughout this section, died last Saturday morning at the
home of his daughter Mrs. William SWINDA of Elnora. Death was caused
by general debility and the weakness of old age. He had been ill but
about a week. Each changing season depletes the ranks of the "boys in
blue" and with the death of Mr. TAYLOR, another member of that valiant
band was mustered out to join his former comrades. Back in the 60's when
the clouds of rebellion threatened the union, he enlisted in the 65th
Indiana Infantry and held a splendid record of patriotic service. Mr.
TAYLOR was born near this city July 28th, 1843 and was a son of Henry
TAYLOR. He grew up to manhood in the community in which he was born and
in fact, his entire life was spent in this section. About sixty years
ago he was united in marriage to Martha O'DELL and from this union three
children survive. These are: Mrs. William SWINDA of Elnora, Mrs. Edw.
WINKLEPLECK of Akron, Ohio and Hubert A. TAYLOR of this city. The wife
and mother of these children passed on about twenty-two years ago, and
since that time Mr. TAYLOR has made his home with his daughter at Elnora.
He was a member of the Methodist church in this city and was a conscientious
Christian gentleman, loyal and devoted to his friends, his family and
his community. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock
at the SWINDA home. Burial was made at Walnut Hill cemetery at this place.
