Lawrence Taylor, 97, Bicknell, died at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Daviess County Hospital in Washington.
He owned and operated the Sunnyside Coal Mine in Maysville and was a member of the Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church.
Born July 17, 1889, in Jackson County, he was the son of Redoma and Rosie (Williams) Taylor.
In October 1908, he married Myrtle Potts, who died May 12, 1950. His second wife. Mabel Frye, whom he married in September 1973, survives. Also surviving are eight daughters, Florence White and Bertha Potts of Washington, Fern Clay of Muncie, Emma Martin of Sun City, FL, Helen Havely of Indianapolis, Shirley Hiffner of Canton, OH, and Mary Hamilton and Grace Kern of Springsport; a son, Luther Taylor of Plainville; a sister, Mabel Foltz of Kent, MO; five stepdaughters; seven stepsons; 53 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gill Funeral Home in Washington. Brother Bryan Black will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery in Washington, Friends may call after 4. p.m. today at the funeral home.
