Alexander C. Swickard

Alexander C. Swickard, age 101, died Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Wampler Nursing Home in Gosport after a serious illness of one week. He was a former resident of Alfordsville and was a member of the Alfordsville Christian Church.
Mr. Swickard was born near Des Moines, Iowa, December 23, 1861, the son of the late Elias and Almira Camp Swickard. He married Martha Alice Walls in 1889 and she preceded him in death.
During his century-spanning lifetime, the deceased was a school teacher, a mail carrier and a farmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lanah VanWinkle of Gosport; three sons, Foster Swickard, Indianapolis; Frank Swickard, RR 1 Cannelburg; and Charles Swickard of this city. Two daughters preceded him in death.
There are 21 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Loogootee with burial in the Alfordsville cemetery. Rev. A.B. Clarke will officiate.
