Ernest Summers, 36, Taken By Death
Ernest Summers, age 36, 811 Center Street, city, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Daviess County Hospital. Cause of death was reported as a heart attack. He had been ill for two years and seriously ill only a few minutes.
Mr. Summers, a mechanic at the Ward & Hudson Inc. here in Washington, was born at Montgomery, Indiana, February 14, 1926, the son of Owen and Maude Henry Summers. His parents survive. He married Marcella Reed on May 20, 1949 and she survives.
He was a member of the E.U.B. Church at Montgomery, VFW here, Burch-Wood American Legion Post and the Internatiional Association of Machinists. He lived in this community all his life and served with the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 2C during World War II.
Two daughters, Martha Jane and Cheryl Ann Summers, both at home survive. Other survivors include three brothers and two sisters. They are: Charles Summers of Jasper; Gerald Summers of Epsom; Mrs. Edward (Wilma) Padgett of R.R. 1, city; Miss Juanita Summers of this city; and George Summers of Richmond, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the V.L. Poindexter Funeral Home with Rev. Frederick Beedle, assisted by Rev. R.P. Hawkins, officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
