Alice Ethel Smith Scales

Mrs. Alice Scales, 79, Loogootee, died at 9:30 p.m., Friday at the Daviess County Hospital. She had been in failing health and seriously ill for three days. She was born September 6, 1891, a daughter of John and Lula (Ragsdale) Smith. She married William Grant Scales March 21, 1915. He died in 1965. She is a member of the Waco Church of Christ. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Ardella Taylor, Washington, and Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Edwards, Loogootee. There are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Orion Smith, Largo, Florida, John Smith, Anderson, and Paul Smith, Holland, Indiana; and two sisters, Mrs. Leona Schnarr and Mrs. Doris Doades, both of Washington. One sister preceded her in death. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Titzer Funeral Home in Loogootee, with burial in Old Union Cemetery in Reeve Township. The Rev. Johnie Edwards of Bloomington will be the minister. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Sunday.
