LAURA E. PRATER TAKEN BY DEATH LAST MIDNIGHT
Native of Reeve Township Died at Washington Home Mrs. Laura Ellen PRATER,
67, of 1408 E. Walnut Street, a native and lifelong resident of Daviess
County, died last midnight after a lingering illness of about five
years, her death being attributed to a complication of diseases. Mrs.
PRATER was born in Reeve Township on June 9, 1867, being a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson POTTS. Her mother's maiden name was
ARMES. She was married on March 12, 1896, to Jerry M. PRATER, who preceded
her in death several years ago. The deceased had been a resident of
Washington for the past several years and was well known here. During
the past five years she had been in failing health, and for more than
a year had been confined to her home most of the time. Two weeks ago
she became seriously ill, with death ending her suffering last midnight.
Mrs. PRATER was a member of the Mt. Zion church at High Rock, having
joined that church as a young woman and maintaining her membership
there. Surviving children are Mrs. Guy (Norma) HORTON of Washington
RFD 1, Mrs. R. L. (Helen) GAITHER of 1202 State Street, Mrs. Alvin
(Mary) McCRACKEN of 207 Mill Street, Miss Laura E. PRATER, and Dewey
PRATER, both at home. Brothers surviving Mrs. PRATER are Benjamin F.
POTTS and Alfred POTTS of Reeve Twonship, Milton POTTS of Monroe City,
and Alex POTTS of Petersburg. A kind and generous woman of sterling
character, Mrs. PRATER made friends easily and since becoming a resident
of Washington had become well and favorably known to many. She was
a patient sufferer during her last illness. Funeral services are to
be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning in Oak Grove Church in Reeve Township,
with Rev. J. W. McMURTY of Washington officiating. Interment will be
made in the adjoining cemetery. James A. GILL & Sons will have charge
of the funeral.
