STANCEL T. POTTS DIED SUDDENLY
B&O Engineer Succumbs After Hour's Illness
The sudden death of Stancel Theodore Potts, 64, B&O Railroad engineer,
at his residence at 6:20 Saturday evening was a distinct shock to his
many friends and his family. Mr. Potts was taken ill just an hour before
his death which occurred at his home at 608 W. Walnut Street. He had
been on his regular railroad run only 24 hours before his sudden illness.
Deceased was born in Daviess County near Waco and moved to Knox County
when he was a small boy. He was educated in the Knox schools and graduated
from Wheatland High School. His parents were Thomas J. and Margaret Armes
Potts. His birth date was May 26, 1886. At the time of his marriage to
Lula Johnson on Nov. 12, 1913, he moved to this city and had resided
at his present address since that time. Mr. Potts was a trustee of his
church, the Evangelical United Brethren, a member of Charity Lodge #30,
F&AM Washington Chapter; 92; R.A.M. Washington Commandry No. 33, Knights
Templar, the Order of Eastern Stars, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers. His widow and two daughters, Helen Marie, South Bend and Doris
Irene, O'Fallon, IL, survive with a brother, Roy F. Potts, and a sister,
Mrs. Martha J. Armes, city. The body is at Gill Mortuary where friends
may call. Funeral services will be at 2:30 Tuesday at the E.U.B. church
by the Rev. R.P. Hawkins. Burial will be in the Wheatland cemetery. The
Masons will have charge of services along with a Knights Templar Escort.
The Eastern Stars will hold services at 7:30 tonight.
