William “Bill” McDonald, 85, of Washington, died at 6:23 p.m. Sunday at Washington Nursing Center. Born Sept. 6, 1922, in Montgomery, he was the son of Henry and Mamie Myrtle (Johnson) McDonald. He attended Montgomery schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served with the 395th Infantry Unit. He worked for 30 years for McCord Corporation and retired from Essex Wire in Vincennes after 15 years of service. He was a member of the Central Christian Church for 56 years and Washington American Legion. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jim Mangin of Washington; two granddaughters and their husbands, Brenda and Chris Hurt and Cheryl and Troy Pride, all of Washington; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Andrea Hurt and Tori and Will Pride, all of Washington; and one sister, Dorothy Flynn of Loogootee. His wife, Sylvia (Ray) McDonald, whom he married Oct. 22, 1945, died March 17, 2008. Two sisters, Betty Herndon and Catherine Downing; five brothers, Leo, Kenneth, Russell, Harold and Bernard McDonald; two half-sisters, Bernice Downey and Sylvia Weber; and one half-brother, Lennie McDonald, are also deceased. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Rev. James Payton officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
