Carl ‘Roscoe’ McCracken

Carl Roscoe McCracken, 79, of rural Washington, died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday
at Daviess Community Hospital. Born Jan. 2, 1927, in Daviess County,
he was the son of William Ray and Inez (Myers) McCracken. A 1945 graduate
of Montgomery High School, he served in the Merchant Marines. A retired
farmer, he also had worked at B & O Shops, McCord Corp., Armour, Prestolite
battery plant in Vincennes and the state highway department. He attended
First Christian Church and was a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge, White River
Valley Beagle Club, Tri-State Beagle Club and Southern Indiana Beagle
Club. He is survived by his wife, Helen Louise (Roach) McCracken, whom
he married July 31, 1948; one son, Tommy Glen McCracken of Washington;
grandchildren, Lori Lynn Hancock of Petersburg, and Robert Ray McCracken
of Henderson, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Ethan Robert McCracken and Hallie
Nicole McCracken; one sister, Jean Swann of Washington; two brothers,
Harold and George McCracken, both of Washington; and a brother-in-law,
Robert Williams of Indianapolis. One sister, Wanda Williams, is deceased.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, with
Bros. Ronnie Barnes and Michael Luke officiating. Burial will be in Bethany
Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Gill Chapel and
after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Preferred memorials are to the
Cancer Society.
