PASSES AWAY AT SOLDIERS HOME
CIVIL WAR VETERAN ANSWERS LAST CALL
Milton Hinkle, an old resident and veteran of the civil war, passed away
last Friday at the Soldiers Home at Lafayette, his death being caused
by general debility. Milton Joseph Hinkle, the second son of David and
Dorothy Hinkle born Nov. 6, 1838 passed away January 6, 1922, being past
83 years of age. He was born and spent the greater part of his life in
Daviess county. In 1861 he entered the Union Army as a volunteer and
served for four years. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Sarah A.
Strange and to this union four children were born. These are John A.
Hinkle of Plainville, Isa L. Standley of this city, Minnie A. Sanders
and Lee A. Hinkle. The latter two with his wife having preceded him in
death. On December 8, 1880 he was married to Sarah Baker and to this
union one son was born who died in infancy. In 1896 his wife passed away.
He later went to Lafayette, Indiana where with the exception of a few
years spent the remainder of his life. The body was brought to this community
and the funeral service was held from the home of Al Standley last Sunday
at twelve o'clock with Rev. O'Haver in charge. Burial was made at Cornettsville.
