Mary Edith Hayes, 89, of Washington, died at 5:10 a.m. at Washington Nursing Center. Born Sept. 29, 1919, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Leo and Sadie (Cullivan) Colvin. She had worked at UniRoyal, Larkin’s Red and White and Arnold’s Red and White. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Hayes; four daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Bob Grider of Crossville, Ill., Brenda and Dick Mangel of Holland, Diane and Stan McCarty of Washington, and Karen and Rick Sponn of Washington; six grandchildren, Bobby, Rebecca, Beth, Eric, Jeff and Matt; one stepgranddaughter, Trina; and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Esther Amsden, Ruth Flaherty, Ermil Brown, Mildred Spaulding, Norma Werden and Helen Seal; and three brothers, Orville, Frank and Ralph Colvin. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. James Koressel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service at 4 p.m. Condolences may be sent online at www.edleemortuary.com. (March 26, 2009)
