William Austin Grannan
Austin Grannan Dies Thursday
William Austin Grannan, 85, Montgomery, a retired school teacher and
carpenter, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday at the Daviess County Hospital.
He had been in failing health one year and seriously ill one week.
A lifetime resident of Daviess County, Mr. Grannan was born June 16,
1883 in Barr Towhship, a son of James and Sarah (Brown) Grannan. He
was twice married, first to Elizabeth Greenwell, who preceded him in
death March 29, 1933. On January 26, 1945, he married Bernadette Doyle
and she survives. Mr. Grannan was educated in St. Peter's and Daviss
County schools and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Montogomery.
In addition to his wife, he leaves five sons, Adrian, Ambrose, and
Louis Grannan, all of Evansville; Corenlius Grannan, Memphis, Tennessee
and Robert Grannan, Montgomery; one daughter, Sr.Vincent DePaul, O.S.B.,
Ferdinand, Indiana; 23 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; two brothers,
Placidus Grannan, ____, Michigan; Leo Grannan, Fort Dodge, Iowa; two
sisters, Mrs. John (Margaret) Toy, Montgomery; and Miss Marie Grannan.
Preceding him in death were the following: one son, Lt. Col. Vincent
Grannan, a U.S. Air Force Chaplain; one daughter, Pauline; and five
brothers, Leonard, Bernard, Virgil, Winceslaus and Bart Grannan. Funeral
services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Montogomery,
with interment in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lee
and York Chapel. Members of St. Peter's parish will pray the Rosary
at 7:30 p.m. today.
