In loving memory

Rebecca Sizemore Gipson

Washington Democrat
Monday, 29 May 1922, p1

Rebecca (Sizemore) Gipson, one of the city's oldest residents, died about 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at 1210 Grove Street where she made her home with her grandson, Chester Kellams and wife. She was three months past 90 years of age. She was born in Cumberland Gap, Tenn, Feb 12, 1832. In 1846, she became the wife of William Gipson and to this union three children were born, two boys who died in infancy, and one girl, Mrs. Belle Kellams, who died in 1910. Mrs. Gipson, familiarly known as Grandma Gipson, was a woman of many good traits of character. The doors of her home were always open wide with a fine spirit of hospitality. She was a good neighbor and a friend in sickness and trouble. Although her health had been breaking for the last few years, and blindness came upon her, she retained a cheerfulness of spirit that never complained through it all. She leaves five grand children, twenty great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She reared three of her sister's children also. The funeral services were held this afternoon at the Christian church at 2:30 o'clock.
