Mrs. Rachel Gammon Died Thurs. Night
Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth Gammon, age 82, 1005 West Walnut street, city died
at 9:35 p.m., Wednesday at her residence. Cause of death was reported
as complications. She had been ill for one year and seriously ill for
one week.
Mrs. Gammon was born at Shoals, Indiana, June 11 1879, the daughter of
the late John and Ann Davidson Abel. She married Hile Gammon on December
26, 1898 and he survives.
She was baptized at the methodist Church at French Lick when a young
girl and came to Daviess County 62 years ago.
Seven children, all from this city, survive. They are : Frank Gammon,
Claud Gammon, Mrs. Lillie Burrous, Mrs. Dallas Fox, Mrs. Clara Trowbridge,
Mrs. Cecil (Hallie) Boger and Mrs. Joe (Alta) Stevens. Two daughters
have preceded her in death. There are 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Joe Abel of this city also survives. Three sisters and two
brothers have preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the V.L. Poindexter
Funeral Home with Rev. Ryburn Ray officiating. Burial will be in Oak
Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
