Portia Sloan Fields

Mrs. Portia Fields, age 80, 210 S. Meridian, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Daviess County hospital following a serious illness of six weeks. Mrs. Fields was born November 22, 1885, the daughter of James and Anise (Dietrich) Sloan. She married Louis G. Fields in April of 1902 and he died in December of 1960. Mrs. Fields was a member of the E. U. B. church and had operated a boarding and room house for over 40 years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Anise Geneva Potts, Washington, Mrs. Lloyd W. (Lottie) Davidson, Detroit, Michigan; a son Walter J. Fields, Washington Township; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A daughter and a son preceded her in death. She was the last of a family of nine children. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gill chapel with Rev. Wesley Bratcher in charge. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
