John W. Edwards

John Wilkie Edwards, 72 years old, 6 N.E. Tenth St, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes after a serious illness of one week. He had been in failing health for two years.
He was born March 28, 1893, in Reeve Township, the son of Samuel H. and Laura A. (Webber) Edwards and was educated in the Reeve township schools.
Mr. Edwards was an army veteran of World War I, and a member of the Mt. Zion church at High Rock and the American Legion.
He was married December 23, 1917, to Bertha I. Grismore, who survives with four children: Col. Wilbur H. Edwards, Air Force, Arlington, VA; Clyde L. Edwards, Gilbertsville, KY; Mrs. Friedman (Wanda) Hedrick, city; and Mrs. Jack (Patsy) Conolty, Veale township; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Thomas (Martha) Jackman, city; Ralph Edwards, Harrison Township; William and Herman Edwards, both of Reeve Township; Mrs. Everett (Flossie) Burton, Pontiac, IL; and Mrs. Clarence (Bertha) Foster, Downers Grove, IL. A son, Paul, died at the age of three years, and six brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Washington EUB Church with Reverend R.P. Hawkins in charge and burial in Old Union Cemetery, Reeve Township. The casket will be closed at the start of the service and will not be reopened.
Friends may call at the Gill Chapel after 7 p.m. today and until noon, Wednesday, when the casket will be taken to the church. The American Legion will accord military honors at the grave.
