J. Michael Donahue

J. Michael “Mike” Donahue, 83, died at 8:13 a.m. Monday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born Aug. 3, 1924, in Montgomery, he was the son of William and Christina (Healy) Donahue. A graduate of Barr Township High School, he completed post graduate high school at South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, while in military service. He served two active military tours and went overseas twice. He served one year in the 10th Air Force Reserve and later in the Indiana National Guard. He received degrees from Vincennes University, Oakland City College, Indiana State University and the University of Evansville. He taught for 35 years in six different school corporations, ending his career at Barr-Reeve where he served as elementary principal for five years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He is survived by two daughters, Christina Pryor of Martinsville and Jean Donahue of Washington; two half sisters, Mary Lou Gibson of Greenwood and Gertrude Gibson of Lawrenceville, Ill.; one half brother, Joe Donahue of Florida; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Gloria (Dillard) Donahue, died in 2001. One son, Jerome Donahue, died in 1999. His parents and one brother, Frances Donahue, are also deceased. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Washington American Legion and V.F.W.
