BELLEVUE, Mich. — John H. “Jack” Critchlow, 72, died Saturday.
Born Sept. 13, 1934, in Montgomery, he was the son of John T. and Gladys
(Tillie) Critchlow. He served in the U.S. Navy and received his bachelor’s
degree from Western Michigan University. He was a teacher and coach
for more than 30 years, retiring in 1987 from Bellevue High School.
He loved coaching basketball and enjoyed playing golf, researching
genealogy and camping. He was active in his community as a life member
of Bellevue Masonic Lodge No. 83, F.&A.M., the Olivet Country Club,
a life member of N.E.A., M.E.A. and E.C.A.R.S.P., a member of O.E.S.
No. 399, the Bellevue United Methodist Church and their men’s club,
the American Legion No. 54 and the camping clubs, T.T.C.M., H.R.R.V.C.
and N.C.T. He is survived by his wife, Mary F. (Carpp) Critchlow, whom
he married Dec. 23, 1956, in Lawrence, Mich.; children, David (Carmen)
Critchlow of Battle Creek, Mich., Tom (Debbie) Critchlow of Olivet,
Mich., Louise (Harry) Augustine of Bellevue, and Tim (Suecia) Critchlow
of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Visitation
is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel,
Bellevue, Mich. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at Bellevue United
Methodist Church, with Pastor Virginia Heller officiating. Burial will
be in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mich. Preferred memorials
are to Bellevue United Methodist Church.
