Lafayette Chestnut

Lafayette Chestnut, a former resident of this community passed away at his home in Sikeston, Mo. last Sunday morning, his death being due to typhoid fever. The body was brought to Washington Monday afternoon and taken from there to the home of Mr. Chestnut's mother, Harriet Chestnut, in the Wade Settlement. The body was brought here Tuesday for burial, the funeral being held at Good Hope with Rev. Henry Denbo in charge. Mr. Chestnut moved to Missouri over a year ago. He was born in Bogard Township and 1891 was married to Frances Zimmerman. To this union was born six children, four boys and two girls, all at home. He is also survived by one brother, William H. Chestnut and four sisters who are Mrs. William (Mary Clementine) Fisher of Plainville, Mrs. James (Phoebe Jane) Spurgeon near Bloomfield, Mrs. Charles (Harriet Melinda) Kettery of this township, and Susie Chestnut who lives with her mother. Mr. Chestnut was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge who gave their funeral rites at the cemetery. Burial was made at Walnut Hill.
