RICHARD CHADD TAKEN BY DEATH TUESDAY NIGHT; Two Weeks' Illness of Pneumonia Fatal to Aged Resident Richard Chadd, 81, retired, died at 8:25 o'clock Tuesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bessie Albin, 701 South Meridian Street. Death of the aged man was attributed to pneumonia, with which he had been suffering the past two weeks. He became serious one week ago. A native of Reeve Township, Mr. Chadd was born on March 23, 1857, a son of James and Louisa (Potts) Chadd and spent his entire life in Daviess county. He had resided in Washington for the past several years. In February of 1881 Mr. Chadd married Julia Potts, who preceded him in death in 1906. Children surviving are Mrs. Chloe Harrell of Washington, Mrs. Bessie Albin of Washington, Mrs. Lillie Woods, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Glen Slinward of Indianapolis. Another daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Grant, died on March 7, 1937. Surviving besides the four daughters is one sister, Mrs. Katherine Arms of Washington. A brother, Thomas Chadd, died July 4, 1938. There are 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren surviving. Funeral services are to be held at the First U.B. Church, of which he was a member, at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, with Rev. J.W. McMurty and Rev. L.A. Huddleston of Indianapolis officiating. Burial will be made in Oak Grove cemetery. The body of Mr. Chadd was taken from the Gill Funeral Chapel to the home of the daughter at 701 South Meridian Street this afternoon and friends may call there to pay respects.
