Calvin "Hickory" Chadd

Clavin S. “Hickory” Chadd, 84, died at 3:35 p.m. Friday in Lakeland,
Fla. Born Feb. 15, 1925, in Daviess County, he was the son of James
and Elizabeth (Richardson) Chadd. A veteran of the Army Air Force,
he served in World War II. He was retired from Crane and was a member
of Shiloh Church of God, American Legion, past Washington Boat Club
member, Pioneer Creek RV Park Horseshoe Club, and 461 Bomb Group. Survivors
include his wife, Vonda (Byrer) Chadd, whom he married Sept. 16, 1948;
one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Judy Chadd of Odon; two daughters
and a son-in-law, Vonetta and Dan Vories of Vincennes and Carolyn Archer
of Freelandville; one sister, Louise Gray of Washington; grandchildren,
Danny Archer, Cindy Stanczak, Randy Archer, Kenny Turpin, Sherry Blair,
Eric Turpin, Tonya Garcia and Melissa Howder; two stepgrandchildren,
Clinton Spear and Brad Spear; and 22 great-grandchildren. Two daughters,
Rita Turpin and Cathy Shake; three grandchildren, Brad and Angie Archer
and Danielle Shake; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Archer and Nathan
Stanczak, are deceased. Two sisters, Mary Guy and Grace Carrico, are
also deceased. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh Church,
with Rev. Glen Archer officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery
with military graveside rites by the Odon V.F.W. and the American Legion.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Poindexter-Hall
McClure Funeral Home, Odon Chapel, and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday
at the church.
