Wilbur Burris

Wilbur Andrew Burris, 93, 405 N.E. 19th St., died at 1:20 a.m. Monday at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center. Born March 8, 1913, in Daviess County, he was the son of John W. and Ella (Baldwin) Burris. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and later worked at Fleet National Bank in Providence, R.I., for 15 years. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, V.F.W. and Charity Lodge No. 30 F. & A.M. He is survived by one stepson, John Sullivan of Providence, R.I.; two brothers, Kenneth and Harold Burris, both of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Dora (DeAustile) Burris, whom he married in 1938, died in 1988. Sisters, Marie Baker and Lillian Burkhart, and brothers, Lester, Ray, Earl, Robert and Cecil Burris, are also deceased. The funeral will be at 10 a.m Thursday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, with Rev. Dennis Latta officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Reeve Township. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Gill Chapel, with a Masonic service at 4 p.m.
