ODON — John Alden Beasley, 88, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parkview
Village.
He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Daviess County to Harley H. and Minnie
(Riggins) Beasley. He married Mary Margaret “Mag” Bullock on Feb. 2,
1946, and she survives.
He was a 1940 graduate of Burns City High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942
to 1945 on the USS Beale. He was a charter member of Raglesville Lions
Club, Loogootee American Legion Post No. 120, and served on the board
of directors for the Daviess-Martin County REMC.
He worked at Naval Weapons Support Center, Crane, retiring in 1974, and
was a retired North Daviess school bus driver.
Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Beasley and
Mark and Melody Beasley, all of Odon; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana
and Darrell Byers of Bloomfield.
Surviving grandchildren and their spouses include: Michelle and Scott
Helms, Lori and Frank Lorenz, Johnathan and Amanda Britton, Adriane Beasley,
Meredith Beasley, Aaron Byers, Michelle and Russell Brown, and Nicole
and Derrick Tennant. Sixteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Two brothers and their wives, one sister and two sister-in-laws also
surviving include: Calvin and Betty Beasley; Ronnie and Diane Beasley,
Camilla Overton, Coy Beasley and Dixie Beasley, all of Odon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Alice (Taylor Smith)
Beasley, an infant son, Robert Eugene Beasley, brothers Halman Beasley,
Wallace Beasley, Gary Beasley and John Edwin Taylor, and sisters, Gertrude
Kemp, Ava Gee, Irene Sims and Geraldine Harris.
He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them and
his friends. He was also proud of the years he served as a veteran in
the U.S. Navy.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church,
Odon, with burial in Raglesville Cemetery. Bro. Richard Smith will officiate.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the First Christian Church.
Arrangements are being made through the Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral
Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Raglesville Cemetery
Fund or Parkview Village Christian Care Assisted Living Center.
