BERNARD BATCHELOR
Bernard (Bernie) Batchelor, 77, 306 N.E. 18th St., Washington, Ind.,
died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes at 6:40 a.m. Thursday.
He had been ill since May of 1989 and was seriously ill two weeks.The
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church with Father
Donald Ackerman officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Ed Lee Mortuary after 2 p.m. Sunday. The Knights
of columbus and friends will pray a rosary at 8 p.m. Sunday. The Eagles
will hold memorial services at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and the Moose will hold
memorial services at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 30 1912 in Daviess County to Robert and Lula Gibbs Denson
Batchelor. His first wife Eva Mae McDermott Batchelor died in 1982. He
married Dorothy Auberry Burkhardt April 26, 1986 and she survives. He
was a retired rail supervisor for B&O and Chessie. He was a member of
St. Mary's Church, Moose, Eagles, Knights of Columbus and the Railroad
Maintenance Union. He was educated in Longfellow School and Washington
High School.
Surviving are his wife and two sons and on daughter, Richard (Dick) L.
Batchelor, Plainfield, Robert C. Batchelor, Houston Tex., Mrs. Silas
(Beverly) Spaulding, Jasper, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Phil (Judith) Mendenhall,
Vincennes, nine grandchildren and on great granddaughter and one stepbrother,
Clifford Denson, Terre Haute. One sister, Edith Louise Batchelor, two
half brothers, George and Elden Batchelor, three stepbrothers, Floyd
(Soda), Carl and Claude Denson and one granddaughter , are deceased.
