"John W. Bowling, 90, retired farmer and teamster and one of the
city's oldest residents, died this afternoon at 12:30 o'clock at
the home of a son, Harry Joseph, in Loogootee, where he had gone
three weeks ago.
A lifelong resident of Daviess County, he had been a resident of
Washington since 1918 and had become well and favorably known in
the community.
Taken ill about a year ago at his home here, 318 N.W. Eleventh
Sreet, he had been in failing health since that time, a
complication of ailments due to advanced age being the direct
cause of death. He had been seriously ill for about six weeks.
the aged resident was born Dec. 17, 1853 in the St. Mary's
community, Barr Township and was married in that community to
(Margaret) Cordelia Patterson, who preceded him in death 16 April
1927. After farming for many years in Barr Township and in the
vicinity of Washington, the family came here in 1918, and Mr.
Bowling followed the teamer's occupation for several years before
retiring.
Mr. Bowling was the father of 12 children, two infants and five
other children preceding him in death. The five surviving
children are George Bowling of Indianapolis, Mrs. Perry Brewer of
Washington; Mrs. Al Hanan of Kansas City, Kansas; Julian L.
Bowling of 318 N.W. 11th St, Washington and Harry J. Bowling of
Loogootee. There are two surviving brothers, James and Eugene
Bowling, both of Washington.
The deceased was a member of St. Simon's Catholic Church of
Washington.
Funeral services probably will be Saturday morning at 9 o'clock
at St. Simon's Church, with interment in St. John's Cemetery,
Loogootee. Friends may pay respects at the Keller Mortuary,
where the body was prepared for burial."
NOTES: Johnathon William BOWLING was the son of James William
BOWLING (KY-IN), (son of William BOWLING and Monica JOHNSTON
(KY)), and Cecily Ann SPALDING (KY-IN), dau of James Ignatius
SPALDING and Julia Ann MONTGOMERY (KY-IN). Mr. Bowling had 30
grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-
grandchild.

HAROLD J. CLAUSS
Harold J. Clauss, 57, 202 West VanTrees, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the Daviess County
Hospital. He had been in failing health for four years and seriously ill the past week.
He was a retired McCord Corp. employee and a veteran of overseas service in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion and the Eagles Lodge. A lifetime resident of the community, he was born Jan. 6, 1919 to the late Nicholas and Mary J. (Norris) Clauss. He attended St. Mary's schools.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. K. D. (Cynthia) Thompson, Washington;
Two brothers, Robert L. and John R. Clauss, both of Washington three sisters;
Mrs. Lloyd (Dorothy) Watford, Washington, Mrs. Mose W. (Margaret) Gootee, North Vernon,
and Mrs. Archie (Loretta) Rego, Bruceville. One brother, James, has died.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St, Mary's Church with burial in St. John's cemetery.
Friends may call at the Ed Lee Mortuary after 7 p.m. today. Members of the parish and friends will pray a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Eagles Lodge services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Dies at Age of Ninety
Rebecca Sizemore was born in Cumberland Gap, Tenn., February 12, 1832
and died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 1922 at 1210 Grove Street,
making her three months and fifteen days past the ripe old age of ninety
years.
She was married to William Gipson in 1846, and to this union three
children were born, two boys who died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs.
Belle Kellams, who passsed away in 1910.
Mrs. Gipson, familiarly known as "Grandma" Gipson, was a woman of many
good traits of character. The doors of her home were always open wide
with a fine spirit of hospitality. She was a good neighbor, a friend in
sickness and trouble. Although her health has been breaking these last
few years, and blindness came upon her, yet she retained that
cheerfulness and that optimism that never complained throughout it all.
She leaves five grandchilden, twenty great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren. She reared three of her sister's children,
also.
For more than forty years she has kept the faith, and was confident in
the saving power of Christ. The funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon from the
First Christian Church. Burial was in Bethany cemetery.
Mrs. J.W. Kellams Dead
Stricken by paralysis Wednesday morning, Mrs. Belle Kellams, wife of J.
W. Kellams, and one of the best known and most highly regarded women of
Washington, died at 2
:45 o'clock Monday morning at her home at 1300 Grove Street, age
fity-two years. Following a brief illness her death was a shock to
members of the family and innumerable friends.
Mrs. Kellams was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, January 1, 1858, and
removed to Daviess county with her parents in 1862. She was married
twice her first husband being William Pruitt. Her marriage to Mr.
Kellams was solemnized December 31, 1892. Mr. Kellams and five children
who are as follows survive her; Mrs. Rebekah Gibson, Wshington township;
Mrs. C.E.Burris, city and Mrs. W.S. Gibson of Springfield, Mo., by the
first marriage and Hester and Chester by the second marriage.
Mrs. Kellams had been a member of the Christian church for many years
and her membership at the time of her death was with the congregation of
the First church of this city. She also belonged to the Ladies Circle of
U.S. Grant Post, G.A.R., and to the degree of Pocahontas. She was a
woman of many admirable traits of character and was held in the highest
esteem by all who were fortunate enough to possess her acquaintance.
The funeral servicw will be held at the family home Wednesday morning at
10 o'clock and will be conducted by the Rev. J.B. Cleaver and the Rev.
Frank Wise. At Bethany cemetary, where burial will be, ritualistic
services will be given by the Degree of Pocahontas. Services will be
held at the residence Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock by the Ladies
Auxiliary of the G.A.R.
