WASHINGTON — Helen Louise McCracken, 83, of Washington, died at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday at Daviess Community Hospital.
Born April 25, 1927, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Thomas Harrison and Sarah Ethel (Hand) Roach.
She attended Plainville and Washington schools and was a member of New Hope Christian Church. She was a former employee of U.S. Rubber and Armour and Co. A former Sunday school teacher at the old Antioch Christian Church, she loved being outdoors and taking care of her house and yard. She enjoyed being with her family and especially taking care of her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Glen and Kathy McCracken of Washington; grandchildren and their spouses, Lori Lynn and Brian Hancock of Washington and Robert Ray and Kerry McCracken of Henderson, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Ethan Robert McCracken, Hallie Nicole McCracken, Hannah Grace McCracken, Lacy Lynn Hancock and Katy Marie Hancock; and a sister, Delores Rodgers of Washington.
Her husband, Carl Roscoe McCracken, whom she married July 31, 1948, died Jan. 24, 2006. Her parents; one sister, Velma Watkins; and four brothers, Harley, Roy, Herschel and Gilbert Roach, are also deceased.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gill Chapel, with Bros. Byron Holtsclaw and Ron Barnes officiating.
Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.gillsince1872.com.
