JOHN M. TURNER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS John Milton Turner, who was
promiently identified with the business interests of Brazil for more
than a half century, died at 9:30 o'clock Ftiday night, October 25,
at the home at 203 N. Washington St. Ater a protracted illness, of
general dibility. Mr. Turner had been in failing health for several
years and was confined to his bed since last May. His condition
became critical Thurs. when he lapsed into unconsciousness. Mr.
Turner came to Brazil 66 years ago and until his retirement a few
years ago pursed an activd career. which had made him one of the best
known and highly regarded businessman, of the city. He was born in
Wayne co. Ind. and was born 88 years ago. Mr. Turner was the son of
ieptha and Martha Gaar Turner. Mr. Turner was active in civic affairs
and also in local democtratic circles, having served his party both
as Clay Co. Chairman and as city Chairman of Brazil. He was a charter
member of Centinnel Lodge.# 541, G&AM and also of the Brazil Lodge of
Elks. He served the later organization in the capacity of treasurer
for about 30 years and as a reward for his meritorious service the
lodge presented him with a fife membership. He was united in marriage
on Nov 14, 1877 to Anna E. Dickson who ayarvived him. with five
daughters and 2 sons as follows; Clarence M. Turner, Indianapolis,
Mrs.'Ed S. Nance Sr. city, Mrs. Harlan S. Rector, of Chicago; Mrs.
Otis Stunkard and Mrs. Havvey Rardin of city. Mrs. R. Miller
Daniville, II. and Paul Dudley Turner,cit Also six grandchildren and
one brother, Jesse D.dTurner of Richmond. The remains were prepared
for burial at Miller & Sons funeral parlor and returned to the home.
Funeral services were held at the Elks home on S. Sherfey ss. at 2
o'clock Monday afternoon with Rev. E. M. Muncie officiating, assisted
by Dr. W. E. Shirey and internment was made at Cottage Hill Cemetery.
