This cemetery [not to be confused with the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Oregon Twp] is on the south side of East McKinley Street in Wood Twp. at Borden. Click here for a topographical map of this site, courtesy of www.TopoZone.com.
This is the new "town cemetery" and shouldn't be confused with the "Old Borden Town Cemetery" behind the school on the opposite side of the railroad tracks.
This is a large, active cemetery for which I have no index.
Jeff Harmon <JHar33@aol.com> reports that the Jeffersonville Evening News on Saturday, February 3, 1900 ran an obituary for "J. R. Vance" which offered the following information about the origin of the cemetery:
"For some time Borden has been in need of a new burial ground, the present one being small and in an undesirable place so Prof. Borden, who has done so much for the little town, came forward and gave a very pretty plot on the other side of the creek and with Mr. Vances' body we start the new cemetery, which we hope to make a beautiful place for our beloved dead."Jeff also reports that "J. R. Vance" was actually John K. Vance, husband of Nancy Tash Packwood
Wood Township Trustee Shirley Nolot reported on 6/8/97 that this property is maintained by the town of Borden.
No further information available at this time.
