This cemetery was incorporated in 1932 and is located on a hill overlooking the Ohio River at the East end of Fourth Street in Utica. Hillcrest Cemetery is located at 38.3392°N, 85.6515°W in the SW corner of Section 17 in Utica Township. Click here for a topographical map, courtesy of www.topozone.com.
This cemetery was researched by Alvin M. and Liane K. Aldridge in November of 1979. It was also researched by the Hoosier Journal of Ancestry. This is a combination of those two records, taken from an index found at the Jeffersonville and Charlestown Libraries.
In July of 1999, Sonia Van Pelt-Hicks undertook the sizeable task of consolidating the alphabetic list from the two above-referenced indexes and the Hillcrest Cemetery records (provided by Ananna Parks Hooper of Utica) and Sonia's own family history research. The list below is the result of these combined efforts.
Although first burials date from the early 1800s, this cemetery is still active and well maintained. However, searchers should be aware that old marked and unmarked graves exist among trees and brush over the sides of the hill, not maintained with the main grounds. Some fallen headstones were uncovered on the hillside and are included in this list. All told, unmarked graves must exceed more than 100 resting places. There are in excess of 1,000 individuals listed below. This cemetery is located in Grant #16 in the Town of Utica.

A native and life-long resident of Utica, "Nana Parks" was a
descendant of John George Summers, a Revolutionary War drummer boy
who migrated to Utica in 1810 as well as a descendant of Lyman Parks,
one of the earliest settlers of Utica.
She was a retired bookkeeper for Clapp Oldsmobile and was among
community residents who helped organize the Utica Volunteer Fire
Department 52 years ago. She was a member of the Utica United
Methodist Church, serving as church treasurer for more than 59 years
and had been a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years at the
church. When she began teaching Sunday school, she was a great
influence for the elementary age children and at the time of her
death was teacher for the women's Sunday school class.
She was very active in missionary work at the church, always
volunteering to help those in need. She was an officer of the former
Women's Missionary Society at the church and served on various
committees of the church administrative board. She was one of the
founding members and served as secretary/treasurer of the Utica
Hillcrest Cemetery Association for several decades.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Hooper; two nephews, Larry and
Mike Myers, both of Utica; three great nephews, Brad Myers,
Jeffersonville, Brian Myers, New Albany and Michael Myers, Utica; three
stepdaughters, Shirley A. Armstrong and Evelyn L. Thomas,
Charlestown and Ora Mae Thornhill, Inverness, Fla.; nine grandchildren;
21 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Nelson Myers, sister-in-law,
Rose Myers; a niece, Jane Carol Green and her parents, Horace "Footsie"
Myers and Elizabeth Eleanor ("Bessie") Bushfield Myers.
