This cemetery is located at Silver Creek Church on Brick Church Road between Sellersburg and Charlestown, Indiana, in Charlestown Township. This property is maintained by the Silver Creek Cemeterial Association and remains in use as of 1997.
This page is Part II of the information and index for this site. Click here for Part I of the Silver Creek Cemetery index.
The photo at left is that of the Ike Perry monument. As you can see the base of the monument (made of cement blocks and filled with earth) is crumbling badly and it is only a matter of time before the monument goes tumbling down the hill.
Silver Creek Church was established on November 22, 1798, chartered as a Baptist Church, the first Protestant Church in the Indiana Territory. Additional details on Silver Creek Church can be found on the Clark County USGENWEB site.
This cemetery is maintained only through donations and the sale of burial lots. To donate to the Silver Creek Cemeterial Association or for information on purchasing a plot, please contact:
A number of years ago (probably in the 1980s), between 90 and 100 graves of former members of the old Silver Creek Church were moved from nearby Worrall Cemetery to Silver Creek Cemetery. These people were members of the Worrall, McCoy, Rogers and associated families who, split from Silver Creek Church when the majority of the members chose to "leave the Baptist faith" and become an independent Christian congregation as a result of the Restoration Movement led by Alexander Campbell, Barton Stone and others in the late 1820s and early 1830s.Ms. Sandy Nunn
