LuAnn Staley reported on 9/11/98 finding a small pioneer cemetery on Sawmill Road, near the Scott County line, in the northwestern most tip of Oregon Township, in Section 288. It is at REMC Pole No. 10458, approximately 6/10ths of a mile east from the junction with Dieterlen and Lindenmayer Roads, on the north side of the road.

The cemetery is fenced and the gate is wired shut.  It was probably cleaned 2 or 3 years ago when several large trees were removed from the site.

The pictures above show how overgrown this little cemetery was on June 5, 1999.  There are numerous holes under the vegetation and footing is quite treacherous.
 
 

LuAnn is going to try to get a county corrections department or probation department crew up there to do some clean-up, which may reveal more graves and permit a thorough indexing of the site.  Despite its condition, LuAnn was able to extract the following data from the eight stones she was able to find:
