KESSLER CEMETERY BURIALS
(a/k/a KING CEMETERY,
a/k/a FIFTY-FOUR CEMETERY)
Charlestown Township, Clark County, Indiana

This small cemetery is located about a 1/4 mile off North Patrol Road, inside Army Ammunition Plant.

A car or pickup truck can easily drive back the unpaved lane but the buses, of course, could not carry us back there during our tour on 11/29/97. Many of the nearly 100 participants made the relatively easy trek back to this beautiful little family cemetery, deeply nestled in these woods.

I know of no indexes for this site; however, the known surnames include:

Ferguson, King and Slaughter

When we visited Kessler Cemetery, it was clean and had been recently mowed. All of the visible stones were in good repair.

Of considerable note was the 12 to 15-foot tall King monument marking the grave of John and Sarah King (see close-up photo at right).

Quite impressive considering this little cemetery is stuck so far back in the woods. There is a wire fence around the graves.

Kessler Cemetery was one of the highlights of our trip.
