According to an index dated 5/5/94, this cemetery is located on Albert Shafer's farm in Oregon Township, near Otisco, Indiana, off State Road 3, in the Southwest 1/4 of the Southeast 1/4 Clark's Grant 228.  Click here for a topographical map of Goben Cemetery, courtesy of www.topozone.com.

There was at that time evidence of some eight or ten other graves. The cemetery is on a ridge about 100 feet by 50 feet. There are three large cedar trees -- one large -- and two medium-sized hickory trees.

William GOBEN -- Probably married twice. Born 1758. Died 1820. Married Unity. Children: Calvin and Mary. William GOBEN served under Capt. James Montgomery's Company and Col. Evans McCoy. He was discharged September 17, 1779. Pension Number 16105. His Pension began November 29, 1819 -- $8.00 per month. The ridge, where the cemetery is, was a look-out for Indians in this vicinity. "NOTE: (1) William GOBEN (2) Hugh GOBEN, son of William (3) George GOBEN, Sr., son of Hugh (4) George GOBEN, Jr., son of George, Sr. "SEE GOBEN FAMILY HISTORY FILE" at Charlestown and/or Jeffersonville Library."

I just thought I'd let you know that William GOBEN was married twice.  According to his will, found in "Clark Co. IN wills 1805-1875", Vol II, E-G, by the Ann Rogers Clark Chapter of the D.A.R., he had two wives.  The first was Rebecca Broady, the second, "Nicey" was Unity/Unis Durham.  Included in the will are the names of his 16 children.  This book was found in either the Jeffersonville or New Albany library.
